They knew that one sure way to sell their product was to get glamorous-looking people to leisurely puff on a cigarette in an exotic location. It was especially young people who were drawn to this wonderful new way of doing something wonderful. Young people are always looking for role models and the glorious life depicted in smoking advertisements was just what they were looking for. No one came to the fore to warn them about the dangerous hazard that this same glorious way of living can have for them. Other researchers showed that people in the room with a smoker could be damaged by second hand smoke.

The knowledge that smoking affects your health, led many people to quit smoking, but for some even that was not enough. They only quit smoking when the effects on the people around them, usually their loved ones, became known. The maternal instincts of mothers started protecting their babies from the effect of second-hand smoking. The alarming fact that babies of smoking mothers weighs less than other babies, also changed some smoking mothers’ minds. Only when the facts about smoking are known, can people hounded by nicotine take the decision to quit smoking.
